98 Artists Turn Helmets into Works of Art For Children’s Liver Disorder Association Auction
Transubstantiating a good helmet, even for a worthy cause, personally is a bitter pill to grind. While there exist helmets who wear the rider for protection, these lumps of fiberglass and foam willingly sacrifice their own nuggets on the hard road, to protect ours.
Designs, stickers, and sponsorship logos on helmets are, of course, nothing new. For decades, helmets have been used as a canvas. Nonetheless, and only exceptionally, a helmet, after receiving its scars and bruises battling open roads, earns the right to spend its remaining years on display. Of course, if you’re a non-rider, and collect helmets to fulfill a fetish, the above doesn’t apply.
Kodachrome memories can’t be created in a studio. Only brutal miles on unforgiving asphalt or treacherous dirt can surrender them. However, after receiving a link to “Art Helmets Benefiting Monaco Liver Disorder Association” and viewing the series of art helmets, I bitterly admitted – exceptions exist.
The collection features helmets turned into works of art by 98 of today’s inspiring artists. While some helmets have been beautifully painted for effect, others are transformed into sculptures.
The auction will take place live on Saturday 17th July at 5 pm, at Collection des Voitures de SAS le Prince de Monaco at Les Terrasses de Fontvieille, where you can view the entire collection from 15th to 17th July. Each helmet has a starting bid price of €800. For more information, click on the link: https://www.artcurial.com/en/sale-m1087-art-helmets-benefiting-monaco-liver-disorder
Proceeds from each custom-made helmet will be donated to the Monaco Liver Disorder Association. This organization raises funds to research children’s liver diseases.
