The Eau Rouge XJR1300 – Deus Ex Machina’s brilliant tribute to the 24 hour endurance race
Custom motorcycles are at the core of the Deus Ex Machina (‘god from the machine’ ) mission. Deus entered Australia’s cultural motorcycle custom scene in 2006, with some noteworthy customized motorcycles and with the notion that, “doing something is more fun than just owning something“.
The Eau Rouge XJR1300 is a collaboration with Yamaha Motorcycles and is a modern interpretation of the iconic retro endurance racer. Encapsulating the lean and single purpose looks of an endurance bike, Deus maintained a modern look by inheriting the straight lines and angular aesthetics of the Yamaha XJR1300.
Most importantly the Eau Rouge XJR1300 is more than ‘eye candy’, some of the highest quality parts available on the market were incorporated into the project.
The 4 cylinder Yamaha XJR1300 engine is the only thing that was kept stock
The front-end nose cone houses the off set headlight and retro-styled Öhlins right way up forks embrace a gold-plated Marvic five spoke wheel with Discacciati calipers. Twin Öhlins on the rear with aluminum machined rear-sets and a titanium stubby 4-into-1 exhaust system.
Painted using a special technique which gave a bare metal finish to which the classic Yamaha “speed block” graphics were added. Finally the bike is topped off with a built in-house angular seat unit and gasoline tank, which maintain the straight lines and angular aesthetics of the donor bike.
In the Eau Rouge XJR1300, Deus built a respectful accolade to the riders and their machines that risked everything by pushing the limits in non-stop 24 hour endurance races.
