Ducati Removes Any Doubt About an Electric Motorcycle In The Near Future

Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali declared in January 2019 that “the future is electric, and we’re not far from starting serial production,” confirming that the company would soon begin manufacturing of its first electric motorcycle.
Ducati management recently flip-flopped and dispelled any doubts regarding the company’s plans to produce an electric motorcycle in the near future.
Ducati VP of Global Sales, Francesca Milicia, backtracked last month on Ducati’s CEO’s previous commitments of an electric Ducati motorcycle in the near future, saying that electric motorbikes were not in the company’s present plans.
“Will we produce an electric Ducati soon? No. We think that for the kind of machine we make presently, an electric motorcycle cannot guarantee the pleasure, the range, the weight, etc., that Ducati riders expect.”
In an interview with moto.it onine magazine, Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali backed up Milicia’s recent remarks.
“…let’s say that right now, the main complexity in making high performance, high range electric motorcycles lies in the battery. So we are following with great attention the evolution of this component. Right now, we are evaluating when and at what time the amount of energy that can be stored in a battery will somehow make a product like a full-scale electric motorcycle usable.
Ducati has previously announced that an electric motorcycle is in development. In 2017, Ducati Western Europe Managing Director Edouard Lotthé stated that the firm worked on both an electric bike and a scooter.
